I know the third person limited narrative is what I see most often in fantasy. It's where the story is told from the viewpoint of a specific character in the third person mode. And I know that third person omniscient narrative is where the author focuses on a wide range of characters and states things that the characters couldn't possibly know.
However, my question lies with my buddy's work. He has me reading a story he wrote and it's in a style I've seen before and personally don't like. It's in the third person but he switches POV frequently and sometimes does it mid-paragraph. For instance, Dave could be talking to Susan from his POV and then the next paragraph it's from Susan's POV. Is this sort of a hybrid of limited and omniscient? Or is it considered one or the other? Also, have you seen this in a book before, and if so, do you mind this type of narrative?

It's sloppy. I can't imagine that the result is good.
