I tried both. GoodReads is designed to be more interactive, I think. The design is more user-friendly and plain attractive. I like how I can sort books into shelves, especially to distinguish between read and to-read. I don't think LibraryThing had that. Thanks to GoodReads, I know I have 275 books on my to-read pile.
