There are bits that are gorgeous, and there are bits that are so slow I almost fall asleep and her writing isn't enough to pull those bits out of mediocrity. Which upsets me, because usually her writing is lovely.

I really do want to find out what happens with the characters, and the stories are adorable, but I'm not overwhelmed. Maybe it will pick up.


Maybe. I did not like it in the beginning. I was actually rather annoyed, wondering why everyone made such a fuss about Byatt. I liked it much better at the end. It still has issues, but I liked it.
