When you buy one it comes up as a transaction with price £0.00. While I agree that technically if there's no price, there's no sale, I very much doubt that news outlets are conscientious enough to make sure they don't accidentally (or even accidentally-on-purpose) change "115 e-books were downloaded for every 100 books sold" to "115 e-books were sold for every book sold".

Of course, to answer this we'd need to see Amazon's original figures...
