As the end of the first month of 2011 approaches, here’s what we’re doing on Read and Find Out.
Books Messageboard
Our January/February challenge is to read a work of Classic literature. Here’s what people have chosen: The Not-So-Dirty Half Dozen.
Tom talks about his experience of reading Madame Bovary in French.
Rebekah encourages people to join in a reread of The Riftwar Saga – eventuallly.
And battle rages over book covers. Well, not really, but there’s a little bit of international teasing.
And check out the other reviews and discussion threads on the board, including the new releases for January 2011, our reading habits over the past 10 years, and the shortlists for the BSFA Awards and the Philip K. Dick Award.
Wheel of Time Messageboard
Deadsy wrote a fan fiction that takes place after the events of ToM. It’s a thoroughly good read, so enjoy!
Shannow is worried that the Last Battle will be anti-climactic.
Members share their thoughts on the latest book, Towers of Midnight. See the announced review post.
And there are many discussions about events of ToM, theories about the last book, and hopeful casting for a film!
TV & Movies Messageboard
Voting for the RAFO TV&Movie awards is now open. It closes on 1 February, so get along and vote for the best films and TV shows of 2010.
j-whitt987 wonders why illegal downloading is illegal.
Legolas reviews classic film The Thief of Baghdad.
News includes casting for the new Batman film, new trailers for A Game of Thrones and Dr Who, and a proposed miniseries based on book/musical Wicked.
Games Messageboard
Nebhead recommends a puzzle game called Spacechem. Good to know what our webmaster is doing with his spare time.
(Jokes, Benjamin, jokes! Don’t fire me!)
Beetnemesis reviews Dead Space, and ironclad surveys the board about their favourite games of 2010.
Ghavrel is looking for a good RPG, and vandevere is torn between Aion and Neverwinter Nights 2. Maybe you can help.
Role Playing Messageboard
ranagrande is looking for ideas of games for the board. Have you got any suggestions?
Yunalesca is running a Mafia game – it’s now Day 4.
Isaac’s Dune RPG is into Round 3.
And you’ll find a list of rules/guidelines at the top of the board, plus a catalogue of previous games.
Community Messageboard
Larry yearns for some good spam. Get your thinking caps on, people.
Tashmere is delighted with Louis CK and shares a few of his videos with the board.
Cannoli is amused/annoyed by a whining woman who fell over while texting, TMJ laughs at single geek dudes, and random thoughts tells us about the nearly-completed death ray gun.
And! Clover announces her engagement. Congratulations!
That’s all for now! Have a browse through our boards and see what else is out there on Read And Find Out. It’s more fun when you get involved.
