Bantam appear to have decided that they are going to rejacket the SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series in the USA. They previously rejacketed the books in 2003, which proved controversial at the time for readers trying to get a matching set for their shelves.
The 'new' American cover art actually isn't new. It's the existing British covers with art by Larry Rostant. However, just to confuse things, they've slotted the UK cover art for A DANCE WITH DRAGONS onto the cover for A GAME OF THRONES. The UK GoT has a dragon's skull on it, so Bantam appear to have decided that the skull would go better on their edition of A DANCE WITH DRAGONS (incidentally giving ADWD its third set of American cover art, which is slightly ridiculous given the book isn't out yet).
In the midst of the chaos they also have a separate tie-in edition of A GAME OF THRONES coming out (redubbed GAME OF THRONES to match the TV series) with Emilia Clarke as Daenerys on the front cover. This edition (apparently not 100% finalised either) will appear in both the UK and USA and the UK version, at least, will feature a new typeset (the old one was getting grubby), possibly new maps and other materials. Only GoT is apparently getting this treatment at the moment; a TV tie-in edition of ACoK will accompany Season 2 and so on.

I didn't check, but it was around the same size as the regular edition so I am assuming its the same *NM*
