In my youth I read a book that impressed me a lot but now I can not remember the title or author. The story started with a large group of humans stranded on a planet with gravity much stronger than Earth and followed several successive generations as they struggled to survive.
Does that jog anyone's memories?

Found it! After a very long search, I found this novel Originally titled The Survivers by Tom Godwin, it is now available free re-titled as "Space Prison" at

a real classic story.
