I think you might like them better. Jekyll and Hyde, at any rate, is less episode-focused, which appears to be what you objected to in this one. Treasure Island is more similar to Kidnapped as I recall.
Yes that was one of my major problems about it. Each chapter could have almost been its own short story, it just seemed all short stories had the same characters and setting and so were put together in a book.
And yes, Stevenson died young. But strangely not from tuberculosis or another disease of the lungs, which is what everyone expected to kill him (and which made him move to Samoa, where he died, in the first place).
Really? I read that he had lung trouble and died young and assumed that was why he died.
No, he died from a stroke. Everyone was very surprised. He had nearly died from his lungs so often that it was commonly accepted that would be the end of him.

I've not read a great deal of Stevenson, and managed to avoid this one.
