Just finished reading I Shall Wear Midnight, and I will post a review in the next couple of days as I can't see that anybody else has. But first, I wanted to ask a few questions about what you think of Sir Terry.
1) have you read any Terry Pratchett?
1) have you read any Terry Pratchett?
Yes.
2) if so was it Discworld or something else or both? How many books?
Most of Discworld (barring a few of the early ones) as well as Good Omens.
3) what is your overall opinion of Pratchett's writing?
Always, at the end, they leave me feeling both profound and happy, which is a very commendable thing.
4) which are your favourite arc of books by TP? (e.g Tiffany Aching, Vimes, Strata, the truckers etc.)
I have a very soft spot for Tiffany Aching. Also, the Watch and the Witches. But there are a lot of favorite stand-alones that comes to mind as well, Monstrous Regiment, Small Gods, etc.
5) have you noticed a change in his style or quality since his diagnosis with Alzheimers?
I don't think the recent books have suffered because of it, although since the process of writing them (or rather, dictating) must be very different it's not surprising that the books themselves would be different. Then again, the style of the books has changed over the years regardless.
6) do you think it is right for an author to be knighted on the basis of fiction he has written?
Sure!
7) what is your favourite individual Pratchett book?
The Wee Free Men. It has a special place in my heart.
do you also think this is his best work?
Not his best work but perhaps his most endearing one.
9) do you ever find that you don't think of your favourite book by an author etc as the best one? Why is this (not) so?
I think that Pratchett does a good job winning readers over not only intellectually but emotionally. In this case, my favorite may not be the most intellectually stimulating of his works but it is the one I love the most and also the first Discworld book I read.
10) have you read I Shall Wear Midnight? What did you think?
I have! I quite liked it. It had a different sort of feel than the previous Tiffany Aching books, which was no bad thing. A little sadder, a little darker, but just as satisfying.
11)do you prefer TP's funny satires, his somewhat darker mire serious works (generally still satirical) something in between or do you see his work as something else? Or do you hate all of it?
I think it varies day to day, for me. I tend to prefer the more serious ones. But they're all so lovely, and they're also hard to classify in one particular category or another.
12) have you seen any of the tv sealskins of his works? How do you think they compare to the novels?
I have not. I am dubious.

Why do think you don't like unseen academicals as much as the others? *NM*

Humorous. But his underlying nihilism always leaves me somewhat disturbed after finishing a book..
