Hey Rafonauts

A few questions for you on your reading habits.

1 - Approximately how many books do you read in the average month?

I am not sure. I have 57 so far this year, and consulted to as to what that averages, and he says 7.

2 - Of those books, what ratio would be Sci-fi/Fantasy compared with Not SFF? (Ie SFF:NotSFF)

Um. I have no idea. Mostly not. I have read Harry Potter recently, which skews the ratio rather a lot, but apart from that, 8 are SFF (plus 7 HP). That makes 8:50

3 - (with credit to Tom) Which of these do you read:

Fantasy

sometimes

Sci-fi

Historical Fiction

if it is good

Classics

quite a bit

Thrillers

rarely

Crime/Mystery

only Holmes, generally.

Other fiction stuff (like Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro etc)

quite a lot

Non-fiction

very much

Graphic Novels

yes (only one so far this year, though)

Manga

only accidentally

Plays

occasionally

Poetry

rarely

Short stories (please specify what genre they might belong to)

sometimes.
I don't go so much by genre as by author when it comes to short fiction. And good short fiction authors generally mix.

Magazines

not really

Newspapers

a lot

4 - Do you read every day?

yes

5 - Do you find it easy to discuss the books you read?

yes.
:P

5a - If not, do you know what might make it easier?

more free time?

6 - Do you buy books as soon as they are published?

No. Well. Rarely. Although there are current authors for whom I will make exceptions. Harkaway's next will be one. The author needs to be established in my mind as very good for that to happen.

7 - What do you like to see in reviews?

A personal touch. Why the book moved the person/didn't. A note on characters (developed or not), plot (well-created or not, complex or not, predictable or not, a sequence of episodes or coherent), language (florid, terse, appropriate or not, good, bad), as well as what sets the book apart from other books of the same type. If there is a type. If there isn't, that is generally something to be noted in itself.

Thanks.

:)
