And he uses the Cruciatus curse in the next set of chapters as well, without blinking. It is a little disturbing.
On the Carrows, I take it? That is disturbing, yes... the gloves have to come off, okay, but it should be harder for him than that.
Yes.
True. Although I think a fairly convincing case could be made for Voldemort feeling much more strongly when he sees him now. And it has been established before that the connection is stronger when there is strong emotion involved. And when Harry is tired, which by now he is -- he fights a dragon and then does not sleep until the book is over, I think.
That's true, but still... kind of odd that after book five, Harry still profits from the connection so much while Voldemort doesn't.
The Power of Love, I suppose
I sometimes have the sneaking suspcion that Fleur's veela charms have translated through the books and affected you
Not really, or I wouldn't be complaining about her lack of depth. And there are moments in the series that she's a bit of a bitch - early on to the Weasleys, most notably, even if they exaggerate enormously in the complaining about her. But here, I just don't see it.
True. But then so is Molly.
Yes, but Molly has seven children - it would be a big feminist statement indeed to have her have a career while raising seven children. Fleur seems to have given up on the idea of a career from the start of her marriage, though of course the circumstances make having a career hard for everyone.
True.
There is a difference of understanding. I fail to see why the wizards' view must be the right one here. If the goblins make something and say that you can pay to borrow it for as long as you live, and then the wizards keep it and pass it on to their children, I'd say they have a legitimate grievance.
As an economist, I cannot really see the difficulty. Either the contract of sale contains such a clausule, or it does not. If the transaction was concluded by both parties of their own free will, the one whose view was not mentioned in the contract of sale has nobody but himself to blame.
Not so if the word "sale" has different meanings in the two cultures. If "sale" to goblins entails a lease for the lifetime of the person, exclusively and irrevocably, then it is as much the wizard's fault for not clarifying that this should also extend to his (or, indeed, her) children. As it is, I doubt they had a contract where this was spelt out: I imagine it went "look, here is a sword; I give you money, you give me the sword". Which leaves a lot open. And if both cultures assume theirs is the default way, then there is no reason why they would clarify it.
It depends how thoroughly obscure horcruxes are. If they have never heard of them, there would be no reason to make the connection.
That's true... at one point I seem to remember it was to implied just about every Dark wizard worth a damn had at least toyed with the idea of a Horcrux, but then if we look at our sample size of two, Grindelwald doesn't seem to have had one, so that reduces it to 50%. Slughorn knew about them, but then he's an academic and I believe older than either of them. I guess it's impossible to tell.
Yes.
