I'm going to need to spout that out randomly in perhaps five to seven more posts before I get it out of my system.
BECAUSE OF YOU, I now own Bibliothèque de la Pléiade editions of the following:
Oeuvres, Volume I by Baudelaire
Les Misérables by Hugo
Oeuvres, Volume I by Stendhal
Oeuvres, Volume I by Flaubert
Oeuvres Romanesques by Sartre
Oeuvres Complètes en 2 Volumes by Camus
and...
wait for it...
wait for it...
Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, by Dumas
I hope you appreciate the cost involved. It's all your fault because of your Madame Bovary translation post. The last book is one that I decided to get because, having read it in English, I already know the story. I am going to give it another try in French to see if somehow it is more engaging in the original.
In many cases, I only bought Volume I because Volume II is letters and less well-known crap by the authors.
Bah!

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

For what it's worth I don't think there are a lot of French classics I want but haven't bought.
