With those sentences following it about only strength and power and ability with weapons counting for them, it makes more sense to me that they have "only contempt" for the others, than "only hate". And there's the passage before that where their arrogance and self-confidence is discussed, there too "contempt" seems more logical than "hatred".
Contempt can be a very strong and very ugly emotion, if you ask me, perhaps even worse than hatred, as it shows less respect for the other, dehumanizes him.
I think "contempt" is too weak of a word to describe this emotion, one that is akin to what spilled out on Kristalnacht. As I said above just now, perhaps "despite" would be a more apt description of that tenuous middle ground between mostly-passive (in regards to overt action) contempt/disdain and the more active hatred. It really is close to a loathing that's been depicted in this scene, a loathing of other groups/races that continues throughout this series.
Illusions fall like the husk of a fruit, one after another, and the fruit is experience. - Narrator, Sylvie

Not really, when that's the only complete translation available in a language I read

It's an interesting discussion about that title... "disdain" is indeed somewhat weak.

Yeah, there may be a slight difference between Czech and English meaning of the word

Hm. I'd actually say it makes me more inclined to think "contempt" is right after all.

I find it funny that all the discussion in the thread is about the best translation of the title.

Perhaps, but there's been a weakening of "contempt" in English over the past few generations
