It would've been a stronger story if it hadn't been quite so evident, honestly.
And isn't it quite fitting that the Malfoys have white peacocks. It sounds extra decadent, and it fits in very well with the family's colouring (or lack thereof).
Now that you mention the family's lack of colouring... do you figure that's a sort of metaphorical link to their strong streak of opportunism and joining whichever side can offer them most? Though I guess at this point it's more a matter of being on the side that will allow them to survive - fear and trauma driving them more than their financial or other interests.
"The Dursleys Departing" -- am I the only one hearing an ironic take on "the dearly departed"?
It's possible, she does love her word games and double meanings in chapter titles.
