It's always disheartening when it fails to live up to the title!

I recycle the books. By which I mean, I trade it in to a nearby local bookstore that takes old ones and gives you credit for newer or used books.
That way, since I spent the money, I can usually end up getting 3 books for the 1 I traded :)
