His books are entertaining, but his prose and his themes are not very deep. He has been hyped as some superb writer when he is average at best. The Da Vinci Code did so well because people who don't normally read, read it. Those same people now think Brown is an AWESOME WRITER, and most people who can tell the difference between Walt Whitman and Amy Winehouse know better and and try to dissuade such a false belief.
You might not like Jordan and Martin because the plot thread weren't completed, but they both did something 1 BILLION times better than Brown. They both created a world and drew you into it with their prose. Brown doesn't have that knack of drawing you into the world.
I only enjoyed The Da Vinci Code because I was taking and Art Class when I read it and when he began to describe the paintings, I was looking them up to see how accurate it was. That was a blast and I suggest everyone read it the same way. Other than that, The Da Vinci Code was a weak re-hash of Angels and Demons (which was better written).

Castle: This is so weird. I dressed up as him for Halloween.

Why is it that so many people hate Dan Brown?

It's not any worse than Robert Jordan's prose. I'd say it's better, in fact.
