I hope it is a trilogy of something.....not an open-ended that will go on for decades.
According to Rothfuss, the first trilogy tells Kvothe's story up until he's in the inn. He then has plans for a second trilogy which is the story of 'present day' Kvothe dealing with a new problem (or maybe the hints of problems set up in the first trilogy).
That was the plan way back when TNotW was first published, interesting to see if he can stick with that.
