My dad would read to us, every night. Doctor Seuss, Stewart Little, Charlotte's Web, etc.
We got through all of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, bits and pieces of the Silmarillion, and the first three Harry Potters before the younger siblings were integrated and the books were focused on younger audiences again. I was just about old enough to read on my own by that point and had learned to love books quite dearly.

I disagree - while many SW books are lackluster, Zahn's are some of the worst. *NM*
