I might refer to a 14 year old as young lady but I would never call a twenty year old woman a young lady. Young adult means teens and that includes early teens and even tweens. A 16 should be ready to read regular literature and probably does but many of them still find the YA books more appealing.
What does "young-adult literature" mean?
