I'm amazed he wrote the Player of Games in just three weeks - it's the one I like best of all his books.

Having said that, it does have a real intensity about it which, combined with the very linear plot that just keeps sweeping onwards, which is something I can imagine fitting well with a very condensed and intense period of writing.
