Never understood being put off by length Sandwich Send a noteboard - 12/08/2010 07:33:26 PM
Growing up I never understood people's comments about how they didn't want to read particular books because they were too long. If I'm reading a story I like, I don't want it to end. It's not like reading page 1200 is any harder than reading page 12, and if you're having a good time, who cares?

I think the only time it has ever been a factor is when I'm not enjoying a book. I almost never bail out on books even if they're not going well, so when something is not doing it for me and I still have about three inches of pages to get through, that's when I feel the "too long" heaviness. I might otherwise tough it out, but at some point it's not worth it. I had to bail on Infinite Jest because I didn't particularly care about the story and couldn't stand the thought of reading another 1,000 pages of footnotes.
