1) what's the longest time you've spent reading a book?
I guesss tBotNS could be considered 2 books, or even 4, but I read the book club edition that put it all together into one hardcover.
It took me 3 months to finish, which to-date no other book has come close to. To put it in perspective I finally got a Kindle on July 19th and by the end of the month I'd finished The Desert Spear by Peter V. Brett, Servant of a Dark God by John Brown, All three books in The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, and the new Mass Effect novel Retribution by Drew Karpyshyn.
So in less then 2 weeks I read around 3,000 pages, and yet the not-even 900 pages of tBotNS took me three months!
Granted when the Kindle finally arrived my wife thought I'd been kidnapped because I spent so much time reading she didn't even know I was around!
2) do you ever get put off by length?
Normally the lenght doesn't matter, and when it does it's usually the longer the better. The important thing is that the length is justified and isn't just filler for the sake of length.
3) what about complexity?
I think complexity does effect the reading speed, but it doesn't usually put me off. Just like length the important thing isn't how complex the novel is or not, but how well everything works together to make an entertaining and interesting work.
4) how long is too long?
1,000,000 pages, or however long it would take to be more then the average human lifespan worth of reading!
