First of all I greatly enjoyed Talion: Revenant and would love to see a sequel, even if it is in ebook format
Definitely not how I would like to see it done, but it's better than nothing.
And although i can't blame authors aspiring or established to try and make a profit, the market could get flooded very quickly by crap. This is where the review process should be required...and sites such as read and find out come into play, to promote the good above the bad.
You are right about that... RAFO and other sites like it could become clearing houses for online authors, reviewing and promoting the good while denigrating the bad.
I agree I don't see the older generation doing it right off, until this starts effecting publishers bottom lines. There will always be a market for books I feel, or at least for the foreseeable future.
I know I will continue to buy hard copy books until they stop selling them... and after, even if it means paying antique prices for them.
Really, I think word of mouth comes into play here, where author x recommends author y who then promotes author z and x... The publishing industry does it anyways in blurbs on books from established authors.
True... but I do still worry that the market will be flooded with crap. How many sci fi/fantasy readers have the beginnings of a novel on their hard drive right now? And if they read each others, and blindly praise it (think fanfiction.net style praises) then readers of good work will simply have to either read whatever might strike their fancy, or worry they passed on a diamond in the rough.
I was Phelix on wotmania, I will always be Phelix in the "real" world, and now I am Phelix on RAFO.
