Tolkien's son Christopher turned his father's writings into a nice cash cow for himself by releasing works well after Tolkien's death (e.g., The Children of Hurin).

However, to incorporate what was (for Tolkien) a work in progress, into an understanding of his style, is a bit ambitious.

Having said that, as I pointed out earlier, I think Tolkien deserves most of the praise he gets, but I also don't think he should be put on a pedestal as a "sacred cow", above criticism.
