Gogol: The Nose/The Overcoat The Shrike Send a noteboard - 16/06/2010 02:28:27 PM

So it's that time again. Discussion of Nikolai Gogol's two <very> short stories. So rather than post anything substantial here, I want to open this up to you all and have you post some preliminary thoughts and let this discussion grow more organically. I do want to state one thing that I think is vital to 'The Nose'. In Russian, there really is no word for 'the'. And so the title in Russian is just 'Nose'. And when you spell nose backwards in Russian it is the Russian word for dream, ???/CoH.

And in case you haven't read the two stories yet but want to, they are both online.

So, what did you think of the two short stories? Anything you like - setting, history, characters, themes, etc.
