You might want to see some Oscar Wilde films. They seem to get them right quite a lot.
Having seen most of the film adaptations and having seen most of those plays preformed on stage, I would say that there is a sizeable difference. The films are not dreadful but they still fall well short of the plays.
It could be you don't have a thing for Colin Firth, Rupert Everett and Jeremy Northam?
I have quite the thing for said gentlemen (I could expand on this but this is a family board) and if they were to be appearing in a proper stage version of Earnest or an Ideal Husband I would first in line for tickets (they were all quite excellently cast). But the stage versions I have seen are simply superior, even if they lacked the acting talents of those film adaptations.
