I see your point, and to a large extent I agree, but...

We know there is often a lot of controversy over book to film adaptations, but we don't often talk about things the other way round. I've read one decent one (the book version of The Piano is better than the film, imo) but don't know of any others.
Can this "genre" ever succeed?
Have you read good examples?

I don't know how to explain it, exactly. The movie was there, and the book is basically just writing down the dialogue and adding in some scenery and stuff. So, it's not a true creative work, like writing your own novel is.
Do you then feel that a book to film adaptation is not a "real" film?
I realize there are some differences -- films-to-books generally follow the plot a bit more directly -- but it's still taking someone else's idea and making it into a movie.
I actually really agree with you, for reasons I can't quite put into words, just wanted to devil it up a bit.

Ask a ten year old how he likes the film *NM*

Exactly. I loved the film so much I freaked out when I saw the book in a Motel giftstore.
