Is the Maalouf historical fiction? Looking up Echelles du Levant on Wiki gave me an article on the ports of the Ottoman Empire.
That particular book is about an upper-class Arab/Osman (a descendant of the sultan himself, if memory serves) and his adventures in the French resistance during WW2, and then after that in Lebanon in the period leading up to the civil war there. There's part of it that's rather frustrating, though, I thought, so not sure how much you'll like it.
But yeah, that's what Echelles du Levant means, the ports.

Looking for modern French fantasy. Fantasy that's written in French, that is. Francophone Fantasy.

It has to be rather annoying when that happens, translations ending halfway.

As Dom argues in Larry's link, there isn't really that much.

I read Leroux in English a while ago, so that's out. But yeah, Alix is good.
