My PhD is on Edwin Drood.
Which is the primary reason why this novel could never live up to your expectations.
I found the first 2/3 to be very good. The final 1/3 is not as good.
See, I didn't have high expectations. I read Matthew Pearl's take on the subject a while back and came away decidedly unimpressed. My expectations were low.
