I usually know what sorts of narrative styles I don't like, so I tend to avoid those. Unfortunately, I've read quite a few (thousand) books over the years that aren't actively offensive...but are so lukewarm that I just do that Revelations spit and move on.
But most paranormal romances would fit the bill for me, but they are a dime and dozen and I rarely attempt reading them now
