I met Ian Banks at a book reading, but didn't really talk to him. I have this inferiority complex when seeing or meeting famous people - not that I meet that many - that I will ask them something they have been asked many times before.
Though, he did make a nice comment in the book he signed for me. It referred to me smiling throughout the reading - which, obviously, I did.

Neil Gaiman. I asked him what comic books to read apart from his & Alan Moore's.

Neil Gaiman (for, like, 2 seconds at a signing) and China Mieville (for a 30 min interview!)
