You could just look at the Feb. 2010 interview he did and ask follow-up sorts of questions

That's what I'd do if I want to start out with a few questions. Or you ask about how does he feel he has progressed as a writer or about the differences between working on the graphic novel adaptations of his stories compared to the original novels. Or maybe you can broaden it a bit at the end and ask about the question of how is "urban fantasy" defined and how does he react to those people to criticize that subgenre as being either too full of magical detectives or paranormal romances.
And, of course, questions about the author as a human being are generally appreciated by the authors, I've noticed.
