The village Watchman jumped. He nearly screamed, sure he'd seen a wraith pass by. In his mind, he could imagine its gleeful face as it peered at him from the edge of the haunted woods. Wide eyes staring into the night, he cursed his luck, for there was no other job for him. Let day come soon...
When the first hint of morning touched the sky, he stood up from his perch near the gates, relief in his heart. He turned to enter the village.
