That is your conclusion, but it's certainly not something that Lem said. We don't even know if Solaris had any intelligence.
I say something of this in my review below. It is not clear what Solaris is doing and Snow even suggests that the visitors could have been "presents" of a sort, implying it too was trying to communicate in some way with an alien intelligence. Some think Solaris was experimenting on Kelvin and others but even that is an anthropocentric view because that is what humans did to Solaris first (and what humans WOULD do). The truth is Lem never specifies what Solaris is doing but it is clear that whatever it is doing is a failure and what the humans have done with the x-rays is a failure.
