The most likely explanation is that with JordanCon coming shortly, he was told Tor/Harriet wanted to keep the surprise of announcing the release date at that time.
For TGS, their planned announcements got massively screwed up by various leaks (cover art, advanced Tor catalog etc.), and they had to fall back on press releases and so on - and Harriet McDougal apparently didn't appreciate that at all (brandon and her were among other things supposed to announce the book split and the motives behind that move in person to the fans at JordanCon - they were forced into damage control instead). I'm guessing this is why all is far more quiet on the WOT news front this spring, nothing to do with bump roads or anything. We are pretty sure the book is either back on target or otherwise got pushed no more than to winter 2011. Last Brandon said, it was still one of the other, and he was getting more confident he might make the original fall 2010 target after all.
