You know that they were sort of forced into the title? beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 04/09/2009 09:27:44 PM
Sanderson did a blog post about it, but to sum up:

He was originally going to just write one book. Then he went, "Holy crap, no way can this fit into one book. It'll have to be 3." But he still wanted to use RJ's title (also, IMO, he is pretty terrible at naming books. Probably didn't want to get made fun of for coming up with yet another generic title).

So, it was going to be sort of an "A Memory of Light: The Trilogy" thing. TGS was going to be named "A Memory of Light: Gathering Clouds." The other two would be "aMoL: Shifting Winds and aMoL: Tarmon Gai'don."

Booksellers complained that having the same supertitle would confuse their computer systems and their simple, foolhardy employees in charge of reordering and threw a hissyfit.

Within hours, it was changed to "The Gathering Storm," undoubtedly because it was somewhat similar.

So... yeah.

Oh, Brandon Sanderson. I love your books, but you are pretty terrible at titles. Like "Gathering Clouds" is so amazing.
I amuse myself.

Yeah, we discussed that back when it was announced as a possibility. *NM* - 04/09/2009 01:39:57 AM 125 Views
I find it strange that they went with that, given that her book's not that old *NM* - 04/09/2009 01:51:53 AM 129 Views
It's also not that popular. - 04/09/2009 04:03:52 PM 255 Views
I guess that's why they didn't go with "The Old Testament" for a title - 04/09/2009 04:29:05 PM 317 Views
You know what else I heard they passed up? - 04/09/2009 08:20:48 PM 288 Views
