I think you are frustrated because the storyline for Perrin is disjointed. You need to keep in mind we only have enough of his story to support Rand's storyline. Perrin's and Mat's are running parallel to tGS. We don't know it yet.
Huh? I don't really understand what you're getting at. I'm not frustrated one bit by Perrin's teaser chapters in TGS, and if you read the speculative bits you'd seen I'm perfectly aware there are many weeks of untold story to come between the last bit with Perrin and the day Nynaeve will come to take Tam to Tear. Many weeks (well over a month), but he's still very close to Malden and apparently hasn't travelled for some unknown reason we'll learn about in TOM.
I'm just discussing how could Grady be tying off his gateways to save his stamina in the morning, and when he talks to Perrin the same afternoon and presents Balwer's calculations, he speaks and calculates taking into account he will have to hold his gateways the whole time the people will pass through, as if he didn't know about tied off gateways anymore. And Perrin, who made comments about tied-off gateways in the morning and was aware this was done to spare the Asha'man's stamina, doesn't bring it up to Grady in the afternoon. That's a continuity error, like the fact that in the morning the refugees had started moving north on Perrin's orders while in TGS they are shown still at Malden in the late afternoon, picking things up, repairing wagons and such and getting organized to move out. The continuity between the aftermath of Malden in KOD and the chapters of TGS that take place a few hours later isn't very good, that's all. It reads as if Perrin's storyline was the one Brandon had not started at all (there's one, we're just not sure if it's Mat or Perrin) and he rushed to get those few chapters done because Team Jordan had decided to have a few teasers for Perrin and Mat after the decision was made to divide AMOL. Maria or Harriet should have caught those errors, but for some reason they didn't, perhaps again because they had not worked at on Perrin's storyline yet and this was all done a bit at the last minute.
Can gateways be tied off?
