Sensing residues is a talent. Any residue, balefire is still just a weave, stop trying to separate it :p
Reading residues is a Talent, sensing the residue left from balefire is completely different.
From tFoH, Gateways, Moiraine says, "What you used to kill the Darkhounds is called balefire. I can still sense the residue of it here."
From PoD, Gateways, Avi mentions reading residues, "The residues of a weave this large might be read two days from now."
There is no way Moiraine would be able to sense the residue of balefire made by saidin, unless balefire leaves it's own seperate residue.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
