Except with channelers, they don't need to care. Cannoli Send a noteboard - 16/03/2010 06:10:54 PM
You are really exaggerating Else's importance. It's absurd to believe that she would be such crucial at TG, especially since she probably would have needed at least several years yet to become a half-decent Accepted (if she actually managed the test, considering her attitude).
It's not her, it's the fact of her case indicating a wasteful attitude, especially with the end times approaching.

If one follows your logic all channelers could stay in the WT for free, even if they fail the tests to prove that they are worthy and openly demonstrate that they rather spend their time with other things.
Yes. Your point being?

Else didn't manage to reach the Accepted test, because she already proved as a novice beforehand that she isn't really dedicated in becoming an AS. I don't see why the WT should keep such a person around and waste more time & resources to train her, if Else obviously doesn't really care about it. It would be a bad example for all the other novices, too. You certainly also don't want to indicate that e.g. the damane system, where any female channeler is forced to work for the community, is better.
Why not? I am wotmania's biggest advocate of the Seanchan and apologist for the a'dam. And Else was not a prisoner. She was SENT away, not permitted to go home. Once again - THE LAST BATTLE IS APPROACHING! She doesn't need to be promoted, she can be given a special status (THIS is where Egwene's Kin plan or a variation would be useful) that indicates her dead end career, she can be given a job as a servant if she wishes or else used as an ambulatory battery. A human well, as it were. Keep her strength. There are ways for the Tower to send a message to their novices with promise that they do NOT want to imitate Else, especially when girls who came to the Tower after her, start to pass her on the ladder (as Egwene and Nynaeve did). As for her skankiness, let her boink all the Warder students she wants. She just might pop out a channeler or two.

Personally I'm convinced that you really don't need a person in a war, who doesn't care about helping your side, even if this person has some talents.

But that's the beauty of it all. With channeling, unlike intellectual and physical gifts, the channeler does not even have to WANT to cooperate, as the Seanchan demonstrate. Let her care or not care, the amount of saidar flowing from her is still the same. I am not necessarily endorsing keeping a woman against her will, but with the Tower's dwindling numbers and strength in saidar a real concern at the time she was sent away, I can't see how the one Amyrlin to know for sure how close Tarmon Gaidon is can justify sending her off, simply because she lacks the gumption to be a full sister.
