Moiraine asked them about many things, and consulted their library to conduct her own research. Part of this research may have been related to forbidden weaves. They may not even have known what she was trying to find out at the time.
You can't really recall what questions she had asked, because we don't have any POVs covering each and every visit she had made.
Yes, she did have a chance to channel - she made the ground drop to belch forth fire at Aginor and Balthamel but was overwhelmed a minute or so afterwards, but once again, the timeframe you are asking about now is different from the one the TC is touching on. From all indications, Moiraine did not know balefire until TDR, when she comments that she has become more dangerous than before. All indications being that she purposefully searched for a way to even the odds in case she came across more Forsaken at some point between the end of TEOTW and TDR.
