These were I found surprising/confusing on my first read Yondaime Send a noteboard - 24/02/2010 03:52:12 PM
She wove a bridge, remember? It was not tightrope-walking skills, it was simply walking skills. I think that is why Juilin was so scared initially. He was all "WTF?" and WAS scared, not pretending as Luca assumes, and then finds the invisible bridge of air when he gets up there. Elayne practiced a lot which is why she was able to wing it later on during the public show. That said, the whole circus episode was annoying and I could have done entirely without it.

I was referring more to the actual performance rather than the practice. I've got a friend who does this kind of stuff who tried to teach me a bit, and from personal experience, I can tell you that it isn't that easy. Doing cartwheels and back flips on a tightrope is not a skill that you can pick up in quickly. Hence, on my first read, I was pretty shocked to see Elayne performing so well in such a short space of time.

- Shadar Logoth, when Mordeth swells up like a balloon (I was so surprised and disgusted that I nearly gave up WOT right there ).
What was wrong with that scene? Did it use the word "balloon"?

IMO, this scene just seemed out of place. Most of the things leading up to that point in Eye of the World were obviously influence by LotR, and suddenly coming across the inflating Mordeth was more than a little out of place.

- That little flashback scene in EotW (I had no idea that it was a flashback when I first read it, and upon finishing those chapters, scratched my head and said "Wait... what just happened?" )
I'm drawing a blank. To which scene are you refering here?

These are the chapters were Rand and Mat are traveling to Caemyln. They get a ride from a farmer, and encounter Howal Gode.

- In Eye of the World, when Mat and Rand are being attacked by Howal Gode and the lightning comes down and saves them. (I finally got it through my thick skull that Rand could channel )
Well, that was your fault, not WoT's.

Still, I found it surprising.

I'm just not sure what you mean by a WTF scene. Something that was so awful you hated it, something incredibly implauisble, something that was confusing, or something that totally caught you by surprise?

Any of those work. I'm not really trying to be that specific - anything that you think fits the bill works just fine.
"Take the Gleeman!" Rand and Mat cried, throwing Thom to the Myrddraal. Then they ran away as fast as they could, and Thom's screams quickly faded into the distance along with any inconvenient feelings of guilt.
