Regardless of skill or ability, Alivia defeated Cyndane. From Cyndane's PoV, she was quite passionate about killing Rand - we know that it takes quite the obstacle to turn Lanfear from her goals.
So really, this fight isn't the best support for the skill>strength argument.
Yes, although I do think it's a good argument, we know so little about how the fight actually went we can't really take much from it. For all we know, the Callandor-circle could have broke up the fight with their flame strikes.
