Re: YES!! The SPLIT is important. So why is ENDING the split such a necessary goal? brett014 Send a noteboard - 08/02/2010 02:43:48 PM

This was the obvious reason for the split. My point for this post is, why was it so necessary to knit this organization back together under "good" leadership? This is not really any more important than many of the other sideline plots, and probably less important than most. The Tower struggle is only important for those personally involved, like the deaths of Perrin's family. Sure it matters a lot to the people concerned, but it is not very significant in the big picture.

I don't agree with that at all. Are you saying that a Tower divided has just as much meaning as the Tower whole? That is not even close to reality. The Tower whole is a force to be reckoned with by anyone, including Rand and the Black Tower. The Tower split was critical to the story because it prodded Rand in the direction the pattern needed him to go. Without the split atleast 1/2 of the important points in the whole series would have never happened (cleansing, Elayne in Andor, Perrin becoming a leader, the Seanchen would have never gained such a large foothold, the black tower would not exist, male channelers would not be around, healing of stilling, to just name a few). The tower struggle is one of the keys to the entire series, without it most things lose importance.
But why is it so important that Egwene win? Why is it so important that this so-useful circumstance come to an end? How does mending the Tower change things enough to be a crucial and vital factor in the small bit of story left? No more than approximately a book and a half of time remains for the reunited Tower to do its part, and what can it do in that time than makes Egwene's victory a crucial issue? If there is nothing really important left for it to do, Egwene's victory is one of those "for the future" issues, like the establishment of the school in Caemlyn, or the Seanchan abolition movement.

Lets see... what can 600-700 full Aes Sedai and 1000's of other channelers do? They could form an alliance with Rand and turn back the hordes of trollocs. The Tower united under Egwene will be critical because she can work with Rand to help defeat the Dark One. Also by being united she can defeat the Seanchen or atleast push them back to keep them from conquering everything while Rand is busy elsewhere. The tower united is definitly one of those "for the future" issues, but it is also critical to the here and now in the story
