Re: On the whole Egwene vs. Nynaeve thing... fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 07/02/2010 08:02:40 AM

That's a stretch. Nowhere in the book it stated that Nynaeve is clumsy weaver. It stated several times that she doesn't pay attention to studies if it's not involved the Healing. But that is not the same as clumsy. In many regards, Nynaeve is exceptional weaver. As shown from POV of Elayne.

Read darius's quotes. Added to that, Elayne says Nynaeve has a very rough touch in her weaving.
And yes, despite all this, Nynaeve is exceptional. Anyone else with her total lack of interest with the Power would be useless. She has enough inherent skill to get by, and is insanely strong. But she is not anywhere near the top. Not yet.

If we compare them to Aes Sedai, then Nynaeve long ago overpassed Aes Sedai. Here is the quote from WOT Wiki: "She has some favorable skill in battle: whenever threatened in the early books she would call down lightning and spew fireballs with an ease most Accepted (and even Aes Sedai) would have trouble matching, once even using balefire which only a few living Aes Sedai even have knowledge about"
Remember how Nynaeve was in battle in earlier books.

WoT wiki as evidence? Since when? I've heard of no Aes Sedai having difficulty with Fireballs and Lightning, so this is about the most absurd claim I've read.
And what of Egwene's battles in the early books? She was trained by damane, and fought the Shaido in battle for a long time (longer than Nynaeve has fought in a battle). She uses unconventional stuff like exploding the Earth to a height of 50 feet. She obviously is better at destruction than Nynaeve.

That's not what RJ implied and your assumtion is simply wrong. RJ implied that Nynaeve is not intersted in anything that is not involve Healing. That's why passing test for her would be a little hard. As a channeling under stress - she tackled Moggy and I don't think it was very calm situation. So again, you assumtion that she's not capable to tackle obstacles and distractions are simply baseless.

Nynaeve's lack of interest in anything but Healing is the issue here. She knows barely anything outside it, which is what gives Egwene the edge, as battle does not involve Healing.

We've seen Rand doing 100 Arrows of Fire at once. And we've seen Nynaeve doing mutlitple very complex weaving that Elayne can't comprehend at all. And we've been told that are SuperGirls (Avi, Elayne, Egwene) are pretty much evenly matched.

Rand made one weave, which gave off a hundred arrows. The wording is very clear.
Same with Nynaeve's Healing. It may be insanely complex, but any Aes Sedai with moderate Healing can do it. It requires no splitting of Flows.
