how Vanin would have such a long conversation with and Aes Sedai about the geographical nature of northern Altara. Smart money is on him talking to a Brown about geographical features, and she just told him about mountains formed during the Breaking.

Sure, there is the possibility that he is a former Warder or someone's agent...but that just doesn't sit right with his character. At best, I could see him being a Warder-School drop out....or even a former soldier in the Tower Guard. It didn't work out...and next thing you know, he's a master horse thief and scout.

I mean really! He's a thief and generally rather disreputable! There are other clues that he may be more than he appears too ... His sneaking skills are amazing, he can read (Mat is surprised by this in WH) and his general attitude toward Nobles ... methinks we may be in for a surprise with Vanin.
