Most of all I believe Moridin wanted to gain Rand's trust by revealing this secret.

Doubtful, IMO. Moridin knows that Rand knows that he used to be Ishamael. And therefore (unless he's a complete moron) he knows that Rand will never trust him, regardless of what he says or does.

It seems possible that Mordin even thought that Rand already learned about this final balefire-death, e.g. from Asmo, LTT or Semirhage. After all, Rand also used balefire against Rahvin.

Perhaps, but then revealing the info himself would serve no purpose.

Besides that, Moridin might consider that this revelation won't matter much anyway, because any Forsaken who will die now won't be transmigrated anymore, since TG is simply too close (Osan'gar apparently wasn't transmigrated).

They might still be transmigrated after TG, if the DO wins. I would think most of the Forsaken hold out that hope.

Plus, what about the potential danger to himself? Does Moridin not care, or does he think he's somehow immune to that possibility?

Finally, it might of course destabilize the Pattern, if Rand and other Lightside channelers use balefire more deliberately, which helps the Shadow.

True, but encouraging Rand to go after the Chosen with that BF seems contradictory to the goal of the Shadow winning. Presumably, they are still needed. Could Moridin & the DO really view the BFing of the Chosen as a net gain? BFing one or two Chosen isn't going to affect the Pattern that much - seemingly less than the amount of chaos each Chosen causes in the Pattern with their various schemes, etc.

Seems like a net loss, to me. Maybe not with what Rand did to Graendal, since he wiped out a whole bunch of people, but in general it would seem like a net loss.
Rise and fall, turn the Wheel,
'cause all life is
is really just a circle.

Moridin probably just wanted the access key to prevent the Cleansing - 02/02/2010 10:26:11 AM 7156 Views
no reason to take the tool that allowed Rand to Cleanse saidin? - 02/02/2010 01:34:59 PM 734 Views
We don't even know if SH knew about the access key in the box - 02/02/2010 02:09:32 PM 668 Views
So the DO's Hand doesn't know about the AK? And we have a quote with Elza's orders where? - 02/02/2010 02:14:58 PM 679 Views
If Elza had the order to take the access key, she would have taken it - 02/02/2010 02:29:08 PM 693 Views

He might not know about the access key in the box or have other priorities. *NM* - 02/02/2010 07:20:36 PM 621 Views
