To put it simply, the messenger was a very visible pawn of Graendal's. Graendal of all people knows that's it's very hard to completely erase something from the human mind, especially a location like Natrin's Barrow where that mind was subjected to the shock of Compulsion. There's always the chance that people might have some memory of the location, and that if Rand comes searching for her, he will look firstly at high-profile Domani messengers since LTT knows that's how Graendal would operate.
To counter this, she used a much more subtly-positioned servant working in a prison (Kerb). Rand would not have gone looking for him (and indeed, he didn't - Nynaeve did that). Furthermore, it seems like a lucky coincidence that Nynaeve caught Kerb out - had Rand gone there, he would have failed to sense the saidar-compulsion.
Regardless, I do tend to agree that this plot mechanism for finding Graendal was a bit weak and "lucky" for the Light, but I still don't find it to be a "major logical flaw", let alone implausible.
For all we know, the messenger had other orders, perhaps including one to return to Graendal's lair (even if she couldn't vocally reveal its location), and had to be killed for that reason.
So in summation, Graendal is dead and I don't have a hard time believing any of the events that lead up to it. It might not have been the most imaginative writing, but it was decent enough and the payoff at Natrin's Barrow was worth it.

I can see why the messenger had to be offed. I can also see why Graendal sent someone she had compelled to do it.
All this is sensible and credible. What is not is that Kerb stays back. And not only does he stay back, he poisons Rand's prisoner!
Two questions come up:
1)Why would Graendal order Millisair poisoned? What benefit does this give her? None. How does it inconvenience Rand? It doesn't.
In fact, it serves no purpose at all, except to draw attention to Kerb. Because if he had gone on and succeeded, Rand (and Nynaeve) would have been told Millisair is dead. Most assuredly, someone would have investigated, and the poison would have been detected, and Kerb would have been suspected.
Even if one were to make the (specious) argument that Graendal hoped Millisair's death would go unnoticed, one is still left wondering why she wanted her dead in the first place, and took such risks to kill her.
2)Why, if Millisair had to be killed did Graendal not simply compel someone already in Bandar Eban? (I contend that is indeed what happened, and Kerb was not some previously installed mole, as others claim). Why use someone who has come to Natrin's Barrow, when she can disguise herself, hide her ability, Travel to Bandar Eban, and compel someone to do what she wants? That, for someone as careful as Graendal, is simply unacceptable. Unless she were laying a trap, and spoke the name to Kerb so he would tell Rand.
Graendal's death would imply a major logical flaw in the story.
