That's just it. That's really the Dragon Reborn myth in a nutshell, really.

I always felt like her 'cause' was more to the mission itself than the results. I always had the impression that it was more important to her that she complete her goal than it was for people to be benefited from the results of that goal.
The whole Dragon Reborn thing means a TON of death, destruction, and chaos. It's a GIVEN. That's the BEST case scenario. Moiraine knows that the most important thing, the ONLY thing, is making sure Rand wins no matter what. It will be bad either way, but if Rand loses it will be an eternity of agony.
The Aiel prophecy is a good analogy. Without Rand, the Aiel will all be wiped out in the Last Battle. Hands down, no question, an entire race of millions of people will be slaughtered.
WITH Rand... a "remnant of a remnant" will be saved. Whether that means a few hundred thousand, a few dozen, or just a few, it's better than the certainty of zero.
Moiraine realized this a long time ago, which is why she is so single-minded. She's almost like a Verin hypnosis-victim. The Dragon must fight the Last Battle, and win. No matter what.
I amuse myself.
Who is the bravest WOT character -- a soldier willing to sacrifice the most for their own cause?

I'd say there are only two serious candidates, and one clear winner

Can totally get behind Tuon for that scene. Bornhold's a boring fanatic, though. *NM*

The thing is, most of the people I try to think of didn't really have a 'cause' ...
