Re: It had to be a circle of six men and six women... Datakim Send a noteboard - 16/01/2010 03:37:49 AM
The BwB says explicitly that a circle of six men and six women, being the most balanced possible circle between men and women, was capable of doing some things no other circle could.

We're even told that a circle of 72 at times was weaker than a circle of 12, especially if it was not balanced well.

Really? Where? Can you give me a quote?

It does say that a balanced circle composed of equal number of channelers can be better/stronger than a larger circle that is unbalanced. So essentially 6 men and 7 women might be better than say 1 man and 20 women because the first circle was more balanced.

However it also says that the larger circle is better if it also balanced, and that the most powerfull circle was one of 72 that was composed of 35 men and 37 women. A circle of 72 could also be achieved with 6 men and 66 women, but this would be a very unbalanced circle and as such weaker than the 35/37 one despite having as many people in it.

So yes, a circle larger than 13 would have been better from a power perspective, so long as LTT kept the thing balanced. It would require more AS of both sexes, but the implication seems to be that LTT suggested only 13 right at the start, back when he did not yet realise how everyone would oppose him. Would it not have been more natural to propose a fully balanced and the most powerfull circle of 35/37 considering the importance of what was being done.

I assume that the precision advantage any mixed circle gives depends on the balance of the link. A circle of one man and one woman is quite capable of some things that two men and one woman or vice versa cannot do.

Not sure if it comes to play significantly in such small numbers but yes, a balanced circle is better. That is spelled out. But a bigger circle is better than a smaller circle so long as both circles are balanced.

So, it seems that LTT did need just six women, and they had to be very strong.

Why not weaker women with angreal/sa'angreal? I think the circle leader had to shift through the operation, and then, one of the weaker women would be called upon to weave stuff, and due to lower dexterity and skill, they would have mucked it up.

And yet we have seen Sorilea for instance demonstate dexterity and skill despite being very weak.

And as you say, there were angreal/sa'angreal and who knows what other *'angreal. Then we have LTT's comments that brute force was not the key suggesting that pure strength was not the answer.

I don't know. It just seems very strange to me.

Hence, he was left with no choice but to go for it with only men.

Strange that he was able to do it alone at the end.

If we assume that some weaker women were willing to support him, then why not have them join him in the attack? I mean having weak female AS in the link might not be perfect, but surely it would have been better than nothing at all.

We saw the advantage of even weaker channelers working together in a mixed link during the cleansing.

So either ALL female AS opposed LTT, which considering their numbers and his status should be considered absolutely insane, or he needed special women and none other than those would help at all.
