Gawyn went from being "boring guy we never see yet Egwene 'loves'" to "boring, cliche wannabe-Hero that we are forced to watch."

At the beginning of the series, I think we all would have bet that Galad would have fallen into that second category. Instead, he turned into a man who constantly wants to do Good, yet is stuck in a Crapsack World where everything is going to hell and even the ostensibly "Good" forces are causing chaos and death.
